[Event] A New Duckling
A New Duckling
On Saturday the 3rd, the Band roamed south towards the Pinchwhistle Gearworks in Spires of Arak. Although the journey there was arduous they arrived with good hope, and the prospect of purchasing a new ship! To be frank, it was mostly Rinoi that was excited about this. She had received an advert from the Pinchwhistles and their outpost, proclaiming they had procured all sorts of naval vessels.
Striking a deal...
Unfortunately, as absolutely everyone had expected… the goblins asked for ludicrous prices for their wares. With threats being shut down by the menacing presence of a shredder- the Band was about to give up hope, until the crafty goblin proposed a different scheme.
They had through, completely legal and unsuspicious activities, acquired a gnomish machine. Although they didn’t know what exactly it was, they were greedy to know more about their timeless rivals, the gnomes and their engineering. As luck would have it, two gnomes travelled with the Band- and one of them was an engineer!
Dimgo the Haberdasher quickly ascertained that the machine was a gas-to-candy convertor. With Gnomeregan’s rather high output of fumes and gasses, and the gnomes affinity to candy, the machine made perfect sense. The rest of the Band was rather baffled, but set to work!
The machine missed a couple of vital parts- and the goblins’ messing about with it required some fixing too. Kastarn, Dimgo and Jack stayed behind to tinker with the machine. The rest of the group split up to make sure they got all the parts before nightfall.
A box of sharp things
Although the exact technical term was lost, the description of sharp things, in a box worked well enough. Charlie, Tygos and Rinoi moved to the beach to craft glass from sand. A magical trick with lots of heat and fire from Charlie. He might have overdone it, and killed a nearby frog with molten glass. The glass was heaved back to the workshop- and gleefully smashed. Sharp bits!
Some foil for the wrapping
The group was worried that finding foil would require negotiation with the goblins- a no doubt very costly affair. But Shapur offered an alternative. With his boundless knowledge of nearby nature, he proposed stripping the membrane of the mushrooms near the coast. Shapur led Kastarn, Alekszander and Harold to the swamp. There was absolutely no danger of mind controlling spores in this damp area, and absolutely nothing terrible involving said mind controlling spores happened.
Fur!
Surely this would be the easiest to find, and the group decided to leave it for last. In fact- they pretty much forgot it, until Kastarn reminded them using the medium of shouting. Fortunately soon after they headed out, Charlie, Alekszander and Tygos were jumped by a group of murderous growling Saberon. While they bumbled about, leaving Tygos as catfood on the ground, Rinoi and Harold joined the fray. Although it was not the Band’s finest hour in terms of combat- through sheer luck and numbers they finally managed to corner the cats. After which Alekszander ripped apart their souls, leaving their coats of fur intact. Deadly efficient.
Making it work!
With all the parts finally assembled, the masterful engineers of the Braves tinkered with the machine and got it working again splendidly! After some test runs with farts and a subsequent rather brown bit of a candy- the Pinchwhistle in charge tried out the machine. After finding out he could turn his cigar-smoke into wrapped candy, he was sold. A deal had been struck- and the Band received their first ship on the continent of Draenor!
… Although it was perhaps not as majestic as they had hoped.
It was at the meeting the following week that the Band dubbed it the Independence, to celebrate their freedom and independence.
Feel free to leave feedback, additions, screenshots or whatever you like related to this event! I am going to try out making a forum post for each of our events, so we can look back to the adventures we have had. It also offers a good place to offer feedback on DM styles, what people found fun and what they didn’t. Unfortunately I didn’t make many screenshots of this event, and since we split up during it, I wasn’t present to see what everyone did. I’ll update the main post with cool screenshots and things I’ve forgotten from the comments.
